Hi,

Did anyone try chiptuning for a 1.9dti, the dealer told me it wasn't a good idea becouse the clutch would go in about 8000 km anybody tried this and really drove 190 km on a flat road????

Chiptuning leads to higher torque and this is dangerous both for the transmission and for the clutch. I do not know the exact values for the kangoo but I expect that there is a reason for the "soft" setup of the 1.9dTI - other engines with same technology (VAG for example or the renault dTIs in other renault cars) has much higher horsepower and torque. Maybe the transmission is one of the reasons.

But... with any tuning: You as the driver decide what happens to the hardware. If you use the extra power on each start and every time you accelerate than your transmission will die very soon. If you don't do that and use it seldom it will work for a long time.

I have read both kinds stories - drivers driving 100000s of kilometers with a 90 hp engine chipped to 110 or 120, and also those who destroyed their equipment within few days.

I don't think you can reach REAL 190 km/h with chiptunuing because of the transmission ratios. Diesel cars are configured in a way that their engines run at the rotation speed that delivers maximum power when you drive at maximum speed. Above that the diesel engine has decreasing power and the injection is also decreased due to the fact that the pistons move faster than the burning of fuel - this means the enginge has a point somewhere between 4400 and 4800 rpm where it has reached its maximum rotation speed. Chip tuning does not change this much! You can enforce the power, but you cannot win more than 100...200 rpm that way. So... without changing the transmission ratio you win no more that 5...10 km/h, maybe 15 if the rotation speed at (manufactures) topspeed is not that high.

Greetings,

Jan
