Hi Ron,
your intensions sounds very interresting to me. When I planned my trips to Iceland an the Sahara desert, I put my Landcruiser on larger/higher wheels, changed the suspension, installed long range fuel tanks and placed an snorkel for higher air intake. At the one hand it was nice to see the car changing, but at the other hand it took a lot of trouble to get the resulting technical problems solved. Installing a body lift kit really was a challenge. To get the air intake higher, I used a produkt of Australia named Safari Snorkel which suits perfect to the cars body but cost incredible 500 Euro. I think there is not a ready to install produkt for the Kangoo at the market. You can also use sanitary tubes, but it looks like it; just ugly! If you want an solution just for crossing a river, you can use a spiral tube and place it before you make the crossing. Another method I saw at Iceland is an connection to the passengers room to change the air intake from outside to the inside. For that you have to drill a hole throug the firewall. But you have to remember there is not only the air intake, there are numerous ventilation holes for gearbox, steering and so on. At my Landcruisers I fixed hoses at the driveline and gearbox ventilation. If you run into a river with a warm axle, water will become succed in! You have to care for water protection a lot. Remember to protect the electronic as good as possible. If you get stuck in an river there will become flooded anything. I dont want you become shocked by my notes, but going up a creek without a paddle, had been one of my favourite things to do; but I had to pay a lot!
About your other question mounting higher wheels. In my opinion you can do it. There might be enough space inside the fenders. But enlarging tire size means decreasing horsepower at the wheels. If you dont have low range gears like us, I can`t really guess to do that. Especially for Iceland you have to carry a lot of stuff and food and your car is heavy, you need any single horse of your engine. You will see! Today I passed the first 1000 km and the engine is quite new to be powered at its maximum, but at the weekend I tested the offroad performance, but at steep hills the end is shown soon.
When do you get your Kangoo?
Today I ordered some plywood, because my favorite opinion is to change the Kangoo into an minimotorhome.
So much for today.
Martin
